UNESCO and Old Rauma

Old Rauma was accepted onto the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1991. The unique Old Rauma is an excellent example of an old Nordic wooden town.

The aims of the Convention include ensuring the protection of humanity´s cultural and natural heritage, establishing managemant plants, increasing respect towards them and disseminating information. The Convention Concerning the Protection of the preservation and management of material heritage, so that it can be passed on to future generations in as authentic a form as possible.

The 1972 Convention Concerning the protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage is one of the most esteemed and well-known agreements made by UNESCO.

At the present the World Heritage list contains seven Finnish World Heritage sites. Two of them is located in Rauma – Old Rauma and Sammallahdenmäki.
